In 2003, Oxford philosopher Nick Bostrom imagined a “technologically mature” civilization could easily create a simulated world. With simulated worlds far outnumbering the “real” world, the likelihood that we are in a simulation would be significantly higher than not. Remember, the simulations would be so good that you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between a physical and a simulated world. Either the signals are being beamed directly into your brain, or we are simply AI characters inside the simulation. Already, millions of humans are chatting with AI characters, and millions of dollars are pouring into making AI characters more realistic.

A certificate of completion was filed by the Assistance League of Los Angeles with a New Hampshire court on Jan. 30. Manson had to file proof of his service by Feb. 4. CNN —It’s not surprising that Apple’s debut Monday of its $3,499 Vision Pro headset integrating virtual and augmented reality was greeted with mixed reactions, including skepticism, criticism and even lampooning. Each previous incarnation of a headset that immerses the wearer in a virtual world (called virtual reality, or VR) or lets wearers see their surroundings with virtual objects overlaid on them (augmented reality, or AR) started with overhyped expectations only to flame out. I am also doing my doctoral research on the history of virtual and augmented reality (known together as “extended reality”). These apps will be available to Vision Pro users as well. It’ll do anything your Mac or iPhone can do — and more.”And that’s why I believe that over time Apple’s Vision Pro will actually make science fiction scenarios of ubiquitous computing a reality.

While Marsden was initially intrigued by the idea, he said in a phone interview that his doubts set in once the production began. “It was on a brand-new streaming platform that no one had ever heard of, so I didn’t really think it was going to go anywhere,” Gladden said over the phone from Los Angeles. “I truthfully didn’t think anything was going to come from it.”

Opinion | Can the Writers’ Strike Fix Hollywood?

A somewhat more pessimistic analysis, offered by writers like Sonny Bunch and Jessa Crispin, emphasizes that the superhero-sweatshop corporate strategy evolved because it’s giving audiences what they want. And so even if the strike is an opportunity for reconsiderations, it’s probably not a lever that can change the system as a whole. Personally I would like to see the strike lever a different Hollywood system into being. (HBO’s “Westworld,” for instance, or lately Showtime’s “Yellowjackets.”) Sometimes they play like thin imitations of the previous decade’s antihero dramas. Or they take on the character of the theatrical experience but somewhat worse — with too-big-to-fail franchises that nobody really enjoys.
TV’s War With the Robots Is Already Here

Davis.” With the Writers Guild of America strike, that premise has broken the fourth wall. The robots are here, and the humans are racing to defend against them, or to ally with them. In essence, writers are asking the studios for guardrails against being replaced by A.I., having their work used to train A.I. The big-ticket items in the strike involve, broadly, how the streaming model has disrupted the ways TV writers have made a living. And when it comes to distinguishing features, the ability to conjure imaginary worlds is simply sexier than the opposable thumb.
HBO's Casey Bloys revealed his content strategy on "The Watch" podcast and in a talk with Parrot Analytics. Bloys also shared what's ahead for HBO Max once it combines with Warner Bros. Despite economic pressures on streaming, he's not worried that HBO content will suffer. "Euphoria" is second only to "Game of Thrones" in most-viewed HBO shows, but Bloys was hesitant at first to develop its hit 2022 prequel "House of the Dragon," he told "The Watch." And he pointed to more Batman spinoffs like "The Penguin" that's coming to HBO Max and will star Colin Farrell.
It's a profit-making move designed to leverage our very human tendency to see human traits in nonhuman things. Look, I don't think we don't need to treat chatbots with respect because they ask us to. Making chatbots seem as if they're human isn't just incidental. So the real issue involving the current incarnation of chatbots isn't whether we treat them as people — it's how we decide to treat them as property. The robots don't care."
Tesla is recalling 362,758 vehicles equipped with the company's experimental driver-assistance software, which is marketed as Full Self-Driving Beta or FSD Beta, in the US, according to a recall notice out Thursday. The FSD Beta system may also have trouble responding appropriately "to changes in posted speed limits," the notice said. Tesla lets thousands of drivers try new and unfinished driver assistance features on public roads in the U.S. through FSD Beta. Owners must obtain a high driver-safety score, as determined by Tesla software that monitors their driving habits, and maintain it to get FSD Beta access. FSD Beta can best be summarized as a host of new features that are not yet fully debugged.

Despite economic pressures on streaming, he's not worried that HBO content will suffer. And even after Bloys took on oversight of HBO Max Originals in 2020, "The idea is to do things that are not necessarily for HBO," he told "The Watch." And he pointed to more Batman spinoffs like "The Penguin" that's coming to HBO Max and will star Colin Farrell.

Amazon Studios' Head of Global Television Vernon Sanders told Insider that the goal is to deliver content with global cultural relevance. Jan 31 (Reuters) - Warner Bros Discovery Inc (WBD.O) has reached deals with streaming services Roku Inc (ROKU.O) and Fox Corp's (FOXA.O) Tubi to license 2,000 hours of movies and TV series, as it becomes the latest media company to embrace free, ad-supported streaming TV. The streamers announced Tuesday they plan to use the content to launch Warner Bros-branded free, ad-supported TV (or FAST) channels. For the first nine months of 2022, Warner Bros Discovery's streaming business, which includes HBO Max, lost $1.38 billion. The studio is seeking to capitalize on a growing segment of the streaming universe, which industry executives see as complementing subscription streaming services. AMC Networks Inc (AMCX.O), Comcast Corp's (CMCSA.O) NBCUniversal and the National Hockey League have launched FAST channels over the last year.

Jan 12 (Reuters) - Warner Bros Discovery Inc (WBD.O) is exploring a sale of its music library that could be valued at more than $1 billion, the Financial Times reported on Thursday, citing people familiar with the matter. The company is looking for buyers for the music copyrights that it owns, according to the report, which added that the process was in its early stages. Warner Bros Discovery, which was formed last year by the merger of AT&T Inc's (T.N) WarnerMedia unit and Discovery Inc, did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment. Warner Bros Discovery's reported plan would be the latest under top boss David Zaslav, who recently shut down the CNN+ streaming service and canceled the movie "Batgirl". New York CNN —HBO Max, which debuted in May 2020, is getting its first-ever price hike. Effective immediately, the ad-free HBO Max plan will be $15.99 per month — an increase of $1. HBO Max with ads, which launched in June 2022, remains the same at $9.99 per month. HBO Max will save “north of $100 million annually” after removing the shows, according to a source familiar with HBO’s decision. Discovery doesn’t break out the number of subscribers on the platform, but it currently has nearly 95 million global subscribers with HBO, HBO Max and Discovery+ combined.

HBO Max's ad-free plan now costs $15.99 per month in the US, an increase of a dollar. It marks the first price hike for HBO Max since it launched in 2020. The move comes ahead of an expected merger of HBO Max and Discovery+ this year. HBO Max one of the most expensive major streaming services. It now has the second-most expensive ad-free plan, behind Netflix's $20-a-month 4K offering (Netflix's most popular plan, its standard HD plan, is $15.50).
On his right ring finger was a big honking metal ring. Indeed, the ring appears to be an MIT class ring, also known as the "brass rat." The beaver design for the MIT class ring, taken from the school's mascot, dates to 1930. The chair of the 2014 ring committee didn't immediately respond to Insider's request for comment for this story. A representative for Bankman-Fried responded to Insider's request for comment and confirmed Bankman-Fried was wearing an MIT class ring.
Elon Musk's conservative political views are alienating Tesla customers, Paul Krugman said. Krugman slammed Musk's political shift as "stupid" and impulsive as many Tesla buyers are liberals. The self-described centrist has voiced conservative views on numerous issues since then. Tesla shares have plunged by more than 70% from their peak in November 2021, slashing the automaker's market capitalization from over $1.2 trillion to under $400 billion. Tesla shares have also been hit by fears of flagging EV demand, supply disruptions, and Twitter being a costly distraction for Musk.
